Traveling on a budget? Traveling solo? Both? Have you stayed in a hostel before? Hostels are social, budget-friendly, and fun!
Meeting people from all over the world, which are completely different from you and people you probably wouldn’t have met in any other place or situation, is one of the best things about hostels and traveling in general.
And even though people are unique and different in many ways, here is a list of people you will meet for sure:
15 types of people you will meet in a hostel!
1. The Blogger
You will usually find the blogger either in the hostel’s common area or where the best Wi-Fi signal is, sitting with a laptop, camera or phone.
Keep in mind that blogging might be his/her job and not just a fun, time-consuming hobby.
Don’t hesitate to approach the blogger!
Whenever the blogger is not too busy he/she will have incredible stories and great tips to share (well, they do write down everything… They might even write about you someday…)!
2. The Drunk Guy
He might be a traveler taking partying one step too far, and he might be an overstayer or a local guy just going through some hard times.
Still, most of the hostels have “their” drunk guy.
Don’t judge him too soon!
Although he is not sober for most of the time, he’s still very likable and he might actually be one of the funniest people at the hostel.

3. The Snorer
This guy has two unbelievable abilities:
The first one- being the loudest human-being on earth without even knowing about it.
The second one- no matter which dorm you’ll choose or which hostel you’ll stay at- he will be sharing the room with you.
Earplugs may be useful but to be honest, usually there is not much to do if you have a snoring person in your room.
4. The Couple Who’s Having Too Much Fun at the Dorm Room
Seriously, get a room! Not much to say about them.
5. The Hostel’s Cat
Not exactly people by definition, but it has its personality!
Just a random overfriendly cat, which for some reasons enjoys cheap backpackers’ food.
You will probably find the hostel’s cat in the hostel’s common area, constantly seeking for some love and attention.
You never know who you are going to meet!
6. The Two Best Friends Traveling Together
They have known each other from primary school or even
Certainly, they are having a great time- It is so much fun to travel with your best friend, right?
Therefore, you can usually find them in the common area, laughing and chatting to everyone, making new friends, sharing food and drinks.
Join them! They are fun!
7. The Stoner
While you are out there exploring the new destination, the stoner is chilling at the hostel.
While you go out and having amazing time partying, the stoner is chilling at the hostel.
You get the point right? If you are looking for someone to chill with, you should just say hi to the stoner.
8. The First-Time Traveler
Although this person might seem a bit lost at first, and although this person might ask the most annoying questions- you must admit that you’re a bit jealous sometimes and wish it was your first trip too.
After all, we have all been there before, so be patient with them!

Although he is probably not the next Jimmy Hendrix, The hostel’s guitar player usually can play some fun classics to sing along with!
Most of the time you will enjoy the music. still, every now and then, after he’s been playing music for hours, you wish he’d just take a break.
10. That Person
We all know that person.
That person that makes every destination less important because you would rather spend your time doing nothing together.
That person that makes you laugh harder, smile more, and shows you the beautiful side of everything.
In case you happen to meet that person in a hostel, Goodluck!
It’s tricky, on one hand- or as the heart says- enjoy every second you get to share together.
on the other hand, or as the brain says, eventually one of you will check-out…
which one should you follow?

11. The Overplanning Person
He likes to plan. He is good with planning and he knows EXACTLY where he’s going.
Not only that, he has maps, guidebooks, tips he wrote down, lists, and anything you could think of.
Is it all necessary? Isn’t it more fun being spontaneous? Guess it’s all a matter of choice. However, if you need some travel tips- ask him! He probably knows more about the destination than the locals!
12. The dorm room was tidy but then she checked-in
Well, it might be a guy as well, but it is usually a girl, traveling with a big suitcase filled with lots of necessary and less necessary stuff.
Therefore, her stuff is everywhere! It feels like it’s not even your room anymore!
If you ask her politely she will try to take less space, but as soon as she is looking for something, she will make a mess again without noticing.
13. The Posh Traveler
Seems like this person is staying in a 5-stars hotel and came here for shopping but no, you get to see them in hostels every now and then.
As they say, don’t judge a book by its cover! Introduce yourself, because you never know, you might make a new friend!

14. The Hostel’s (unofficial) Chef
No, he’s not an actual chef and he is not working at the hostel either.
But he is always in the kitchen making delicious food.
Usually, this guy has been on the road for long, he would be more than happy to taste new food, but most of the meals he will make himself.
Certainly, he knows what he is doing, by cooking on his own, not only he feels more at home, he saves lots of money too.
Sharing is caring! Although you might not be the best cook or as good as he is, I am sure you can make some of your country’s traditional food for both of you. Bon-appétit!
15. The Party Animal
Seems like he’s more into pub crawls than sightseeing tours, he is up for a drink, a night out or pretty much anything- as long as it is not early morning.
The party never stop, and there is always something going on with this guy- but in a good way!
Check out the nightlife and join the party at least one night! You only live once, right?
