Gifts for Travelers- Complete A-Z list

Posted on December 29, 2018January 5, 2019 by Travel Story to Go

Gifts for travelers- what should you get for that friend who loves to travel?

Buying gifts for travelers, no matter what the occasion is, is a bit different than buying gifts to most of the people you know. why?

first, since travelers don’t stay for too long in one place, you need to think of the size and weight of everything you get.
second, even if the gift you got for the traveler is small and lightweight, he can only carry a limit amount of stuff with him, and he’d rather them to be useful and reliable.
More importantly, when it comes to personal, meaningful gifts, the traveler is away for long, and yes, travelers do get homesick even if they are currently in “paradise”, so making it personal is even extra important.

To sum it up, gifts for travelers should be small, lightweight, useful, reliable and personal.

Here is my A-Z list of gifts and presents for travelers, there’s a gift for each letter (Even more than one for some of them), and it is budget-friendly! gifts for travelers on this list are under 25$ (USD)! Take a look!

A-Z List of Gifts for Travelers!

A

Adapter– We all know that the charging point at airports either busy and crowded or not working, plus, after a long long traveling day when you finally arrive at your hotel or guesthouse, you just want to charge your phone and tell your friends and family you’re safe but then oh no! Surprise!

Well, this is pretty much why a Universal International Travel Power Adapter is a very useful gift (Price: 19.99$).

B

Bluetooth Headphones- Can’t even imagine traveling without music so I’m pretty sure your traveling friend will use this gift- a lot! (Price: 28$- The only item on the list which is over 25$, you can easily find cheaper headphones but I was not too sure about them, do your research).

Books– I love reading! It’s a great way to pass time during flights, layovers, train rides, and it is so much fun spending a day at the beach with a great book. If your traveling friend loves reading, books are great as gifts for travelers!

Think of your favorite book, got something on your mind? Get it for your friend.

The last book I got as a present was My Brilliant Friend (Originally translated from Italian L’amica geniale) by Elena Ferrante.

I loved it so much and read it in less than a week, it has 3 more sequels which I immediately bought as well (and currently reading the 4th). Basically, the book is about two best friends growing up in a neighborhood you wouldn’t want to grow up at (but can’t get enough of reading about it!) during the ’40s in Naples, Italy.

Click on the photo to read a bit more about the book (Price: 10.31$).

Any good books you’ve read recently? What is your favorite book? share it in the comments below!

C

Cards– Card games are great as gifts for travelers, playing card games is an awesome way to socialize while traveling,  Doesn’t matter if it’s for drinking games before a night out or for when you are camping and have no wifi signal. Card games are fun and social! Trust me!

You can get the classical standard deck of cards (Price: 4.29$):

D

DIY– Do It Yourself. Well. I wish I could actually make myself an entire gift for someone, but let’s be honest, it takes more time than just buying a gift and not all of us are very good in arts and handicrafts and those kinds of stuff.

But it makes your gift personal. way more personal. So here are two easy ideas for  gifts you can make (If I can make it I am sure you can too): bookmarks (goes well if the gift is a book) or photo frame (with your favorite photo of you and the person receives the gift), just remember to keep it light if it is for a traveler.

One last thing, the card, yes you can buy beautiful, funny, heart touching Happy Birthday cards (or for any other occasion), but yes, I will always prefer making it over buying it.

E

External Battery/ Portable Charger- When your phone is running out of battery while you travel it sucks. It’s not only you can’t communicate, but you also can’t use digital maps, phone camera, play music and maybe some other stuff.

Being able to charge your phone everywhere is very useful, sure your traveling friend will agree (price 19.99$).External Battery/ Portable Charger- When your phone is running out of battery while you travel it sucks. F

First Aid Kit- Again, travelers need it and for some reasons not all of them have it. Get it for your traveling friend, he will be thankful for it one day.

Well here are two kits I personally recommend, The first one is a bit bigger and it’s 130 pieces, If your traveler friend mainly travels by car, and you know he doesn’t carry his gear much, definitely go for this one (Price: 19.97$):

Packing Cubes- Packing and unpacking are probably two of my least favorite things to do before or during my trip. For that reason, I definitely recommend Packing Cubes.

T

Toiletry Bag- Everyone needs and everyone uses a toiletry bag. But to be honest buying it is not as much fun as buying nice soaps and shampoos, hiking gear or gadgets, well after all, by the end of it, it’s a bag.

For that reason, it’s so much fun to receive it as a present!

The particular bag in the photo below is ultralight, can store all your necessary stuff, affordable and comes in 4 different colors (Price: 19.99$).

U

Umbrella- You probably got your last umbrella while it was already raining and you were already wet by then.

Not only that, it was cheap, not so great umbrella and you probably paid triple than it should’ve cost. Don’t let your traveling friend go through that! A good, compact umbrella is useful and great to get as a present (Price: 21.99$).

V

Vouchers, Visitor Passes, or any fun activity you can book in advance-  trips are great gifts for travelers!

Just stop for a second and think of the country your friend is traveling to. If you were him where would you go? Where would he go? What would he like to do there? Try to find a local travel agency and book a fun day trip for him!

W

Waterproof Dry Bag- Another useful gift or travelers since it is important to keep your valuables nice and dry.

The Waterproof Dry Bag I have is only 2L which in my opinion is too small.

Which size you should get or your traveling friend? I’ll try to make it simple:

5L- Can fit in all the very basic stuff he/she needs for a day trip.

10L- Can fit in all the very basic stuff he/she needs for a day trip, a set of dry clothes, ultralight towel, and few snacks.

20L- Can fit in all the very basic stuff he/she needs for a day trip or a 2 days trip, extra clothes, normal size towel, food, and even photography gear if it’s not too big (would still think twice whether to take it or not though). The 20L Waterproof Dry bag has a double strap so it’s more comfortable to carry.

Basically, if your traveling friend is super adventurous consider getting the 30L or 40L bag but for most people 5L- 20L should be enough (Price: 9.99$-24.99$).

Waterproof Dry Bag- So useful and so important to keep your valuables nice and dry (Price: 9.99$-24.99$).

X

Xuan Paper- Rice paper originating in ancient China. it’s soft, and its fine unique texture is good for painting, writing, and especially practicing Chinese or Japanese calligraphy.

So if your traveling friend is into art, or just traveling to Asia and you are looking for a unique gift, I think Xuan paper might be it (Price: 12.99$).

Yoga Pants- No, not every traveler does Yoga, and yes, this one is for female travelers.

Not only the design is nice, but these are also super comfortable to travel with, lightweight and the cute little-hidden pocket is a bonus (Price: 9.99$- 19.98$)!
